Meara
Thorton was a feisty, world-class computer hacker—cornered by the FBI and
shockingly given the chance to be their newly acquired technical analyst. Brilliant and intuitive, yet aching with the
loss of everyone she has cared about, her restless heart led her to discover a
love she fought and a world she didn't know could possibly exist.
Jace
McKenna was an enigma, a loner, impossibly handsome, sincere and committed. The
Apache shapeshifter blood running through his veins burned hotter than the
blistering Sierra Madre sun. Jace knew the moment he caught Meara's scent she
was his for eternity.
EXCERPT
As if he felt the hair on the back of his neck stiffen, Jace froze for a moment, appearing
to Meara that every animal instinct had just kicked in. His fingers around her elbow
tightened.
"What's wrong?" she asked, watching his ever-changing features. And those eyes, the way they seemed to deepen in color, almost as if he were hunting. She wondered at his prey as she rubbed her hands up and down her arms.
Jace looked over his shoulder then picked up their pace. "I believe someone is following us."
"I feel it too," she said. "I feel as if someone's eyes are boring into my back. It gives me the creepy crawlies."
Moving in close, a wicked grin on his lips and leaning in low to meet her eyes, he whispered, "Stick with me, baby girl. It's probably just the huge black cat, looking for an easy meal." His smile deepened.
A shiver of warmth snaked the length of her spine, and for a moment she could barely breathe. She wanted to be alone with him, discover what made him who he was. But she was afraid too. "That wasn't very nice. Just because you didn't see the animal, doesn't mean he wasn't there." She tried for a note of indignation but failed miserably.
"Hmm," he murmured, "Maybe I should stay in your room every night to protect you from the black jag."
Sexual awareness between them was just too potent. She stifled a shiver, wishing for just what he said. Trying to ignore a verbal response to his suggestion, "I'm going to check out the local zoos and see if there were any circuses around that might have lost a jaguar."
"You do that. I'd like to know if I need to be extra careful on my runs." He surprised her with a sexy wink and a devilish grin.
The way he looked at her brought every sense alive and throbbing. It was almost as if they were reliving that first kiss. His kiss, his touch, so evocative and mercuric.
They barely knew each other, yet it seemed they had been together for a lifetime. And she knew she wanted to find out what made Jace McKenna click.
